about

The First Born enters the ruined house listening for the faint sounds he had heard from the street. A small noise from underneath the floor boards. He silently advances to the source of the sound. A door hidden in the floor. He lifts the boards to find a small girl, no more than three years of age. Typically, he and his soldiers seek out survivors and kill them on site. In this moment of discovering the girl, pangs of empathy overwhelm him. The First Born was born a hermaphrodite. Maternal instinct, long ago suppressed through systematic abuse by his father rises through his body and he begins to shake with emotion. Slowly, he reaches his hand down, grabbing the child by her throat. She whimpers and tries to evade him but he clutches his hand around her and raises her up out of her hiding place. Her parents, dead and gone had hid her away, hoping to save her from their fate. As he tightens his grip to kill her, his eyes fill with tears. Confusion overcomes him. For the first time in his life, he cannot kill. He loosens his grip, and brings his other arm up to cradle the child. He scans the room, shields her eyes from the sight of her dead parents and exits the house with the girl under his cloak. He will save her life and take care of her as his daughter. With the child discretely wrapped in his cloak, he mounts his Thunderbird, rallies his warriors and returns home to the House of Stone.

lyrics

i recall you
angel of death
passing over
and consuming my kin
i tried to hid from you
angel of death
but you found me
in the rubble and ruin
i tried to evade you
angel of death
but you found me
in the house you tore down
please don't eat me alive
like you ate my mother
angel of death
you lifted me up
from my hiding place
with your hand on my throat
through the ice of your eyes
i could see your pain
as it seeped through the cracks
and poured down your face
as you drew me in closer
i could feel your
silent heart cry
merciful golden warrior
i remember how you held me
tenderly like a mother
as the rain fall washed away the ashes
i clung to you
as we took flight
please don't eat me alive
like you ate my mother
please don't eat me alive
like you ate my father
