As The First Born wanders through the rubble and ruin, he comes across a dead boy of thirteen or fourteen. He recalls his life at thirteen years old, being ordered to fulfill the duties of a child soldier, becoming mute, silencing his emotional self and following his father's wishes without question. Pity overcomes him as he gazes at the child soldier, laying so peacefully upon the tattered remains of his country's flag. Pensive and unsettled by the well of emotion, the First Born hears a faint noise coming from the rubble of a house behind him.
